Cricket ...Sports or Business ?

The recently concluded Indian Premier League was considered to be one of the most successful events in the history of World Cricket. With Millions of crores of rupees going into the tournament with every player being payed around a crore atleast, eyebrows have been raised about the IPL... Many have questioned the promotion of cricket in our country thru the IPL....Crtics say cricket is a mere business rather than a sport in India.
Yes true it seems the men responsible for running the sport is doing business....if not then why not r promises being kept of promoting cricket in the rural areas....why dont we find talents arising from places like north east, jammu & kashmir etc...r not they part of india? Nothing has been done to make the Ranji Trophy at par with the English County nor the Aussie Sheffield Shield. When the Sharad Pawar led BCCI faction came to power a lot of promises were made but hardly a few has been kept...Corruption still exists in the BCCI.One of the bigger issues that Indian Cricket suffers from is the wastage of money...Every foreign tour we'll find the BCCI president or some of his associates accompanying the team...Do they really need to do this? Some say they go to promote indian cricket or to improve relations with the other cricket boards and so on...well who better than the cricketers themselves as our cricket ambassadors ?
A lot has been said that the BCCI would promote other sports along with cricket...we will do this,we'll do that...did they really do anythn? the answer is "no"...

With so many drawbacks and flaws in our cricket administration its high time that someone responsible comes into the cricketing arena and promote sports rather than doing business...how can the cricketers earn crores whereas our soldiers fighting with their lives at stake earn a meagre few thousands??? Questions are being raised day & night but most of them remains unanswered !! we need administrators rather than politicians to run cricket in India...the earlier people understand the better it is...or else who knows one day we'll see the BCCI floating shares in the BSE or NSE claiming itself as BCCI Pvt Co Ltd !!!

It is true that business had taken the front seat in the recently concluded IPL but one mustnt forget that it was afterall cricket!! It has glorified cricket to the extent that has never been done before!! Everyone had been glued to the TV screen from Grandmoms to aunts, sisters to mothers apart from the pure cricket crazy audience! It is indeed splendid that cricket could reach out to the masses for the first time! Dont you agree???

As far as ur point regarding BCCI promoting other sports goes then what will the adminstrations of those sports do?? Will they then promote cricket?? Certainly not!! They should instead take a leaf out of BCCIs book andtry and globalise their games!

Business has taken precedence in every walk of life now!! So why not gracefully accept this revolyution. Test Cricket is not being scrapped, it remains for the purists. Let them enjoy that. If ppl say IPL wil replace test cricket i dont agree bcos Test cricket is in itself such a great sport that nothing can ever replace it!!

Finally I would like to congratulate you on coming up with such a thought provoking article! Wish u all da best and may u write many more such articles!! I hope you will also not discourage my viewpoints above! So well done and keep it up!! Cheers!
